Invitation: Interactive Workshop “Moving through failure”

INVITATION Interactive Workshop “Moving through failure”
Offered by Waleria Schüle in collaboration with the Listening Thinking Institute

We don’t have a choice whether or not we will fail in life and work. We all will. But we do have a choice how we move through failure. This interactive workshop is designed to foster skills like presence, self-awareness, perspective-taking and active listening in relation to the experience of failure.

As changemakers we deal with complex societal challenges. In order to be effective in this work, we need more than technical skills. In the past, inner capabilities like self-awareness, empathic listening or complexity awareness were sidelined as ‘soft-skills”. Now, projects like the Inner Development Goals are raising the profile of inner skills in changemaking.

This interactive workshop is designed to foster skills like presence, self-awareness, perspective-taking and active listening in relation to the experience of failure. We will work with two methods that can help us understand and move through failure more consciously: (1) the Felt-Sense method (2) the Listen-Thinking method. We will apply these methods while exploring different facets of failure: from personal attitudes to wider institutional and sector cultures in which we operate.

Participants should be willing to bring and explore a current experience of failure, related to their work. They should be open to experiment with new methods and to explore the topic of failure not only rationally but also at the feeling level.

Learning goals

  • Discuss failure in the context of changemaking
  • Practice presence, self-awareness, perspective-taking and active listening
  • Distinguish personal, institutional and structural attitudes towards failure
  • Experience the felt-sense method, a body-centered meditation
  • Get to know and apply the Listen-Thinking method
